John "Dog Catcher" Phy is was one of the rookies this year.  As you can see, he was afraid of beer so we had put the beers in front of him quietly and slowly assist his confidence level.  Now.. he is an ASS.MAN!

Al Visintainer tells us a few jokes while we have a pre-dinner brewdogs.

Harry "Humshmack" Jennings joined us for the trip up as far as Bloomsburg this year. Next year he will join us for the whole enchilada.

Craig "Squirrel" Hobdell made arrangements for 15 of us to have dinner at Visintainers this year.  Al set up a table just for us in the dining room and served us pollenta with oven breaded pork chops and homemade apple or cherry pie.  It might have been a quiet dinner had Vince "Don Vito" Margera not been spotted by a kid as he got out of his truck when we pulled up.  Shortly, there were 50-75 kids wanting autographs, a few police officers to keep the peace (and pose for pictures with Don Vito), and the town photographer swarming the place!  Viva la Bam!

Harry "Humshmack" Jennings has been a good friend of the Pine Creek Rafting Ass. for over ten years.  He once owned a restaurant in Hockessin, Delaware where he hosted the best Super Bowl party that we ever attended.  Things were pretty normal until a certain "Z-man" sent some popcorn shrimp across his shoulder and onto the heads of a few Ass.men.  Then... the food fight from hell broke out.  Who played in that Super Bowl?  We don't remember the teams, but we will never forget the legendary "Humshmack Bowl"!

Bob "Waldo" Russo leads us through Yuengling's caves while Sam "Precious" Volpone looks over his shoulder.

In the Yuengling Vat room

Bob "Waldo" Russo was another rookie this year.  I promised him that he had nothing to fear about rafting on Pine Creek since it is calm 99% of the time.  Bob can not swim and has/had a fear of being lost at sea.  Wouldn't you know.. it rained it's butt off a few days before the trip and the water rose to 5.4 feet!  Normally it is around 2.3 feet.  When we hit the first patch of rapids I thought he was going to have a heart attack!  After getting through a few more, he relaxed and earned his water wings.  He is now an Ass.man!

We took the tour while Vince "Don Vito" Margera waited in the Rathskeller (beer tasting room).  The rest of the gang caught up with us in Bloomsburg.  Our tour guide recognized us from the many yearly stops we have made on our trips northward.  She was telling us about Dick Yuengling who owns the brewery and stated that we might see "Dick hanging out" in the brew house.  YIKES, I had better check those ingredients on the label again!  When told that his daughters would be purchasing the business from their father in a few years, "A lone voice from the shadows" asked if any of them were single.

Larry "Doctor Proctor" Hobdell waits for his beer samples.

14 Pine Creek Rafting Ass.Men on Tournament Day

Yuengling's Rathskeller - Where we sample a few beers and start our brew-engines which will run non-stop until sometime Sunday morning.

Darby Cup and Tom Turkey Plaque Tournament Day  One of the rarest of pictures taken on a Pine Creek Rafting Ass trip is one with EVERYONE in it!  Pictured above is the entire gang from the 2005 trip.  Good times!

Chuck "Cruise Director" and team-mate Chris "Oh Burger" Oberg watch as Mike "Hobdell" Green takes a pool shot.

Don Vito's Throne

SEVENS? There were seven teams who played a game each against the other teams in pool and in shuffleboard.  A grid was put together the night before, under the influence of many beers and shots of single malt scotch, which somehow got it done in just over 7 hours.  Whew!  Next year we will go to a place that has more than one of each table.  The "Cruise Director" is busy looking at Corning, NY for a pool hall.  New twists each year!

Rob "Cornbread" Robinson and Mike "Hobdell" Green, on the left, are waiting for their team-mates to shoot on the shuffleboard table.  Vince "Don Vito" Margera and John "Dog Catcher" Phy, on the right, are waiting for their shots on the pool table.  Meanwhile, Don Vito establishes himself in "HIS" chair as he also waits on his next six pack of bud longnecks to be delivered to "HIS" table by the bartender.  "HIS" kingdom was established.  All hail Vito!

Owner of the Twin Pines Tavern - 2005 Tournament Site

2005 Pine Creek Rafting Ass. Champions!

The owner is selling the place and moving farther north soon.  Rumor has it that the place will be torn down before we return in 2006.  I guess there is no sense in taking down the Christmas tree, so John "Dog Catcher" Phy got busy and did some intense decorating.  Stuffed animals we drinking and having an orgy under the tree while anything not nailed down was hung from the tree.  It was a "unique" tree when completed.

2005 Darby Cup Champions: Mike "P.W" Green and Gary "Guard Rail" Thurstlic.

2005 Tom Turkey Plaque Winners: Greg "Barfy" Nolte and Sam "Precious" Volpone

2005 Darby Cup Champions

2005 Tom Turkey Plaque Champions

This year's tournament had seven teams competing which is the most we have ever had.  Three teams finished the round-robin format with identical 4 wins / 2 losses records.  The overtime playoff, also in round-robin format, ended in identical records of 1-1.  We went to a second overtime and Gary "Guard Rail" Thurstlic and Mike "P.W." Green prevailed.  Mike's Cousin Jeff "Mountain Baby" Roberts was a co-winner last year, so it is "still in the family".

The same seven teams played each other in a round-robin tournament for the nearly famous Tom Turkey Plaque.  As in the Darby Cup competition, we had three teams finish with 4-2 records.  The overtime playoff was quick and painful with the team of Sam "Precious" Volpone and Greg "Barfy" Nolte slippin into first place.  Greg "Barfy" Nolte is the first rookie to win a trophy.
